Backswing
The Backswing is the most significant movement in the golf swing, as it is the movement that ensures you make good contact with the ball.
The Backswing can vary between oklayers, based on factors like their frame, flexibility, grip, and posture, so it's significant you find a backswing that works for you.
For example, Keopka, Woods, Mclllory, Reed, and Cantlay all are highly successful pga tour players, with backswings varying in length, and speed. The most important thing is that they all finish at the same place, regardless of how they got there.
There are 5 common grip, backswing combinations to help find one that will work for you. It is completely dependent on where your trail hand, left for lefties, and right for righties overlaps your inside hand, whether under it, on top, or beside it will determine the path of your clubhead, and how you swing it.
-
Within these 5 common backswings, there are 5 steps you need to follow while executing the swing, regardless of your body type, and grip.
Step one:
-
Your lead arm remains straight throughout the whole swing.
-
This will prevent any hindrance in your swing path through elbow movements.
Step Two:
-
Ensure both heels remain level with the ground, do not reach too high to get on to your toes.
-
By lifting your back leg off the ground it means your swing is coming too high, and you will likely come over the top of the ball.
Step Three:
-
Do not fully lock your back leg as you come up in your backswing.
-
This will promote all your weight on your kneecap and make it very difficult to rotate your body.
-
If you do this, you can't really swallow your club, to promote the most efficient swing path.
Step four:
-
As you move your arms back, you do not want your hiccups facing the ball.
-
They should rotate with arms and be just here parallel to your straight lead arm.
-
This will prevent an all arms swing, and help you rotate when you backswing is finished
Step Five
-
When your backswing comes up, and you rotate your hips, ensure to only rotate their direction.
-
Do not fully move youtube hips above, beneath, or left of the starting point or else your whole swing path will be discombobulated, as you are in a different position then you started.
